Eligibility Criteria To Apply For A PhD Program In Indian Universities

Not being the country having English as the first language, Indian Universities do not require language tests. However, the mode of communication and interviews in many universities remain English to provide a globally competitive environment to Indian students as well as to suit the students from different countries who have enrolled in the Indian PhD programs. Below mentioned are the points which make a candidate eligible for PhD study in India.

  • A 3-4 year long Bachelor’s degree: the passing score should be 70%, 7.00 CGPA on a scale of 10, or equivalent.
  • At least a 2 year long Master’s degree in a related field: the passing score should be 60%, 6.00 CGPA on a scale of 10, or equivalent.
  • Some universities or institutes also refer to the national level tests such as GATE, NET, UGC, CSIR, CMR, CAR, or so on.
  • The score of English language in the considered test should be 55-60% depending on the PhD course requirement.
  • The research proposal or idea needs to be submitted (differ from university to university) and the candidate must have a supervisor (either a professor from university or an expert in the concerned field)
